Mental Health

Being a skateboarder is a very unique and you are part of a huge, worldwide family. We help each other every day when we’re skating together, from encouragement to land tricks, through to building DIY spots together. Mental Health should be no different, look out for your mates, speak to them and make sure you’re there for them. Mental Health issues affect 1 in 10 people, so if you need advice (or advice for a friend or family member), please speak to the people we have listed below. (NOTE: We have provided this directory as guide only, we (at Skateboard GB) cannot advise you or provide mental health support, we leave that to the professionals).


MIND
Amazing national charity with local support networks, A-Z of mental health, guides to support and plenty of information for yourself & others.

A group that exists to prevent male suicide by offering support to men in the UK (any age) who are down or in crisis situation, plus lot’s of information if you are worried about a friend.

SHOUT
Shout is a FREE 24/7 text service for anyone in crisis anytime, anywhere. It’s a place to go if you’re struggling to cope and you need immediate help.

Skate Mental Health
A dedicated Facebook Group based in the UK, where skateboarders with mental health issues can speak to other like-minded people and feel comfortable to discuss anything with other skateboarders.

Mindfulness Workshops
Mindfulness & wellbeing sessions to help people cope with anxiety, stress, & low mood, in an ever changing world, that at times seems more complicated than ever. Sessions are delivered in throughout Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire and Yorkshire.

MHFA
MHFA offer mental health training, including Mental Health First Aid (MHFA), a mental health skills and awareness programme. Through their training and campaigning, equiping people with the skills they need to support their own and others’ wellbeing.
